I had to head into the city for work yesterday, and I couldn’t help but notice that I’m not the only one who has a penchant for stripes. Men and women alike were walking around in stripes styled in so many ways, and they all inspired me to go a slightly different direction with today’s post.
As I’ve said at least a million times, stripes are ridiculously versatile. A simple striped top can be transformed into numerous different looks, and here are just a few of them.
1) Pairing it with a blazer, scarf and jeans (see post here).
This in itself can be taken in numerous different directions by using different colors blazers and scarves.
2) Tuck it into a high-waisted skirt (see post here).
3) Layer it under a chambray button up.
You can change this up by using almost any button up.
4) Combine the striped tee with other striped pieces.
Make sure to use differing widths though, or it’ll be confusing to the eye.
5) Wear your striped shirt with a leather jacket for an edgier look (see post here).
6) Pair it with colored jeans of any color.
Colored jeans can make any outfit a little more special and unique, and when they’re worn with a striped top, you get an effortlessly chic look. Add a top knot for French girl class.
7) Layer it on top of a simple knee-length skirt. Add some pop with a fun printed scarf.
8) Mix prints by adding another printed piece to your outfit (see post here).
9) Layer it under a bright cardigan.
Wow. That’s a long post! Hope that you guys enjoyed it! Let me know if you want to see the breakdowns of any of the outfits that I haven’t posted yet.
Wow Mega! You don’t need to ever buy another shirt! You can just wear this one!
But seriously, all the outfits are very very nice.
Great collection! It is motivating to see how a single piece can be worn in many ways, when we rush for each outfit to the shops! You are doing a great job!
Love this post, shows how a striped top can be casual yet dressy.

Love all your photographs. And ofcourse your style. Do you use an DSLR?
Oh and just one more quick question, are you an Indian? [No racist views, haha]. Just curious! 😀
Stop by my blog sometime: http://www.stilettosandtequila.wordpress.com
Found you through #IFB!
Aww thanks! Yes to both :). I use a DSLR and I’m Indian. Why do you ask?
Your photographs are beautifully taken. I was thinking of introducing personal style posts on my blog too. Just curious if everyone uses DSLR or not! 🙂
Ahh me too. From Calcutta! 😉
I think that’s a great idea. I don’t think DSLR is required at all. As long as the photos are nice and clear you’re good. Cool! I don’t know of too many Indian bloggers. I’m actually from California, born and raised, but my parents are originally from Hyderabad.
My striped tee and striped sweater are two of the most versatile items in my closet! I love the simplicity of outfit six, the striped tee and colored jeans. That is a combo I have on repeat!
Kimbercrafts I totally know what you mean. It’s so easy and it looks dressy without trying.
Such a great post! I love how you incorporated this shirt into different looks that can work for different outings – my favorite was look #2! I like the pairing with the skirt and the pic makes it looks so fun and effortless!

Thanks Vanessa! I hope the post gave you some ideas on how to style a striped shirt.
Ah, yes. Nothing beats a striped top for springtime. Congratulations on being featured in IFB’s Links a la Mode this week.
Thanks Lauren! It’s my first time being featured anywhere so it’s definitely exciting.
Hey Darling! Great Post 🙂
Do you recommend mixing horizontal and vertical stripes in one outfit for any occasion??
I think in the case of horizontal and vertical stripes, it can be a little harder than mixing stripes that are both the same direction, but it’s certainly doable. I’d suggest breaking up the stripes so that the horizontal and vertical stripes aren’t directly next to each other, and to use one as an accent print (maybe a clutch, shoes or hair accessory). But just experiment! Rules are only there so we can break them right? 🙂
I agree! It’s a hard look to pull off but it is possible.
Cute outfits, the striped tee looks different in each one!
Uh huh! The striped tee is really a versatile piece. Thanks for stopping by Em!
Thank you for sharing!
That’s helpful!
