Dress: INC via Macy’s (similar)
Belt: Forever 21 (similar)
Bracelet: Forever 21
Shoes: JCPenney (similar)
Bag: Forever 21

So I’ve had this dress in my closet for a while, and honestly I’d been kinda bored of it, so it was relegated to the back of my closet. Well, yesterday I needed something appropriate for an event, so I pulled it out and accessorized with some fun pieces.

It’s always nice to update a look with some new accessories, and after some hunting around, I found that I should have come to Forever 21 first. I already had the bag in my closet, but the belt and bracelet are new. Definitely made me fall in love with this dress again. I like that the wide red belt really adds an interesting detail to an otherwise simple dress.

I think there’s something very appealing about an armful of mix and match bracelets, and the addition of a watch makes it all the more interesting. I know, I know, 2 bracelets is not an armful. I need to go bracelet shopping.

I’ve fallen completely in love with large faced watches as of late. A oversized masculine watch on a delicate female wrist? It’s a perfect way to add a little masculinity to a girly style like mine. I’ve recently been obsessing over the gorgeous watches that Micheal Kors makes, and I’m trying to figure out if I’d wear it enough to be worth the splurge.

So when my cousin told me that the watch she had recently bought her husband was being largely unused, I decided to borrow it for a few days and try it out.

I think that this particular watch had a little too big of a frame for me because when I tightened the straps the metal corners of the frame dug into my bones. I think a slightly smaller face would be just perfect.

How do you all feel about large faced watches? Do you know of any other brands or makes of watches that you’d recommend?

Dress : Forever 21
Tights : Forever 21
Shoes : Macy’s
Scarf : Made by me

I normally wear this dress with a backless bra but I wanted to try something different this time. I think that in the future I’ll stick to the backless bra. I feel that the bandeau cheapens the dress a little. I’m really happy with the rest of the outfit, though. Black and white prints are really in right now and I think the scarf adds the perfect pop of color.

Tip: Invest in some printed and colored tights that are on trend for this season. They’re an easy and inexpensive way to incorporate trends into your outfits and dip your toes into something that might be a little outside your comfort zone.

The scarf I made using the GAP-tastic cowl pattern and was really such a quick and easy knit. I finished after only three days of sporadic knitting. You cast on 131 stitches onto size 13 circular needles and just keep alternating between a knit and purl stitch until you run out of yarn. I used 2 skeins of Lamb’s Pride bulky yarn and I love how soft and warm it is. If you’re a beginner knitter or have always wanted to learn, this is a great first project.

Having Fun with Neon Colors

1 Mar

Sweater : Gap
Pants : Forever 21
Shoes : Unknown
Clutch/Wallet : Target

I was in a neon state of mind today, as is very clear by my choice of outfits. I’m sure that when I grow older and have kids and they see some of the stuff I wore, they’re going to think I was crazy. But I’ve always loved bright colors, and the fact that neon is on trend right now makes it easier for me to find pieces and styles that I like.

This sweater was irresistible not only because of the gorgeous color details, but also because it has thumbholes. And no I did not cut holes in my sweater as someone asked me today.  I don’t know if I would buy another sweater with  thumbholes though, because really it’s more of a novelty thing than anything else. It makes it harder to wash your hands and eat and the fabric of the sweater rubs up against the delicate skin between your thumb and index finger when you’re doing things like driving. Still I do love this sweater.

Colorblocking with Cobalt

27 Feb

Skirt : Forever 21
Sweater : H&M
Tights : “Borrowed” from a friend 😉
Cardigan : Gap
Shoes : Macys
Necklace : Macys

Normally when I go for skirts, I tend towards the more fitted silhouettes. Too much volume around my hips to makes me look a little disproportionate. This one doesn’t have that problem even though it is pleated because it’s high-waisted and the soft knitted fabric is more drapey than stiff.

I particularly love the blue band on the bottom. There’s something about cobalt that makes it so easy to wear. I have tons of tops, a few dresses, and now even a skirt in the color. I’ll go out looking for something different, but find myself gravitating towards the color. If bright colors make you nervous, this blue is a great way to add a pop to your wardrobe.

The cardigan is also a newish piece of mine. The texture on the cardigan makes it a little more special I feel. Or maybe that was just my way of justifying to myself that I could buy yet another gray cardigan.
