6 Ways to Style Graphic Tees

6 Ways to Wear Graphic Tees
Lately, graphic tees are everywhere. And why not? They come in so many different styles, and they really allow you to express yourself. So myself and some of my new blogger friends decided to get together and share some of our tips for styling graphic tees (click through to see breakdowns of their looks from above):
“For an easy way to dress up a graphic tee, pair it with a bold pencil skirt: try a midi for an on-trend look.” Me!

“To add polish to a casual tee topped with denim, pair it with bold jewelry, a slim pencil skirt and strappy heels.” Meagan of Meagan’s Moda

“Look through your parents’ old clothes! I’ve found a couple staple pieces that I’m not even sure they noticed I stole.” Thea of Ever So Thea

“You can dress up an otherwise casual outfit with heels and jewelry, and wearing a monochromatic outfit emphasizes the graphic tee.” Laura of Have Need Want

“Style it with overalls for an edgier look” Kayleigh of Kayleigh’s Kloset

“Pair your graphic tee with a feminine, flowy skirt (mini, midi or maxi), great heels and a statement necklace for a look that’s effortlessly chic and translates well from day to evening.” Martha of Sun Fun Fashion

So here’s my take on a graphic tee look.

I love graphic tees. They’re so easy to dress up or down, and its so easy to make a unique personalized one like I did with this shirt here.

I tend to like graphic tees with the graphic localized higher up on the tee because you can easily tuck them in without half of the image or text disappearing, but my favorite part of them is always how you can find one to fit you so perfectly. I own a bunch of different ones right now, but my favorites are probably this DIY one, and this adorable french one (which you’ll see in my next blogpost).

Fall Fashion: Ways to Style Houndstooth

1 Nov

novhoundstoothcollab

I’m totally obsessed with houndstooth. It’s a great classic print that’s also a little different and bold. It’s a great addition to anyone’s fall wardrobe this season, or any season for that matter, and myself, Kayla, and Lexie have a few tips on how you can incorporate it into your outfits this season. Whether you choose to pair a houndstooth piece with some bright colors, or with neutral pieces, or invest in a versatile houndstooth accessory, you really can’t go wrong with this print. It’s pretty forgiving.

Bag: Dooney and Bourke

So I let the crisp black and white of the houndstooth print really be the focal point in the look and then complemented it with shades of gray, black, and white.

I’ve been making an effort to balance out my closet with more quality basic pieces and this cashmere sweater definitely falls into that category. At 1/2 the price of a most cashmere sweaters, the quality of this Uniqlo sweater is pretty great. I loved how much more fall it made my outfit feel.

I really like how the different textures in this outfit really balance with each other very well. The shiny patent leather looks great against the soft cashmere, and the black leather boots add a nice additional texture.

Fall Fashion: 5 Ways to Style Emerald

4 Oct

fallemeraldcollab

Myself and some of my blogger buddies have all come together to give you some tips on how to rock this fall’s biggest trends. We’re starting this series with Pantone’s color of the year, and also one of the most popular colors on the fall 2013 runways: emerald green.

I love the richness of jewel tones in general, and their deep intensity makes them perfect for fall. Emerald green is a new vibrant addition to fall wardrobes that leans away from traditionally warmer tones, while still capturing the feel of the season.

Here are some of our favorite tips on how to incorporate emerald into your wardrobe:
1. Dress up emerald with luxurious details like leather and sparkle.
2. Pair emerald pieces with bold black and white prints to add interest to an outfit while letting color pop.
3. Don’t be afraid to layer a sweater (or top) over a more summery emerald piece to make it appropriate for fall.
4. Wear emerald elements with other rich textures that complement the opulence of the color.

Here I used my chunky emerald scarf to turn a basic outfit into one that really embodies fall. I then added an edgy belt and some dark booties to round out the look.

I love using the color emerald to dress up a look and make it more formal, and this scarf does double duty because it adds a pop of color as well as a touch of texture to any outfit.

Also I love this skirt so much because it has side-seam pockets. I was looking at it on the rack (and didn’t realize it had pockets) and my hand slipped into the pocket when I was hunting for my size and I decided right there that I had to own it.

8 Ways to Mix Prints

24 May

Been collaborating with some fantastic bloggers for the past few weeks to put together a great post for you guys and I’m really happy with the end result. I’m sure you guys won’t be disappointed.

Print mixing is one of those things that fashion magazines often make sound more intimidating than they actually are. It’s really quite simple.

Use the following tips to help guide you:

  • Pair together similar colors.
  • Polka dots, stripes, and animal prints can be treated almost like solids : they go with pretty much anything.
  • Pick one bolder pattern and keep the rest more neutral and simple.
  • Play with the scale of prints by mixing a small print with a larger one.
  • Use a solid colored piece like a belt or a jacket to break up different prints.
  • Choose prints that have one color in common for effortless print mixing.

In my outfit, I paired my polka dot pants with a floral top. Since I paired a small scale polka dot with the larger scale, bolder floral print, the effect of the print mixing was subtle and not at all jarring to the eye. I also picked patterns that were all in the same color story, which makes the outfit feel more like one unified piece and not like a modge podge of different elements.

I would typically recommend staying with 2 prints, but because my polka dot print was so subtle, I added a little extra pop with a graphic pair of flats.

A good way to dip your toes in print mixing is to find yourself a bag, scarf, or pair of shoes with a fun print. Since all these pieces are on the smaller side, it’s easy to pair them with any printed pieces that you may already have in your wardrobe. Just keep those style tips in mind and you’ll be golden.
