Building a Wardrobe: Must-Have Accessories

6 Nov

Accessories can really make a look, and honestly I have so many accessories that I can’t live without because they really transform a outfit. If I had it my way, I’d do a post for each of these: shoes, bags, jewelry, scarves, but I just don’t have the time. So I’ve tried to narrow it down to my favorites. When I travel and can’t take more than one small suitcase, these are the pieces I typically take so that I can increase the versatility of the clothing that I’ve packed.

For jewelry, I typically tend towards the bold statement pieces that really draw in the eye. When you have plain tops or dresses, statement necklaces are really a great way to spice things up.

Gold Isn't So Bad After All-20

I love how this chunky masculine watch perfectly compliments my girly style. It makes me feel effortlessly cool.

All Purpose Colored Jeans-10

It’s nice how these light airy scarves can play the same role as a statement necklace without all of the added weight.

Infinity scarves are my go-to because they require so little effort to look good and they do a great job at keeping you warm. Lately I’ve been making most of mine, but I still adore the ones that I’ve bought.

Styling with Emerald-8

I have a bunch of different bags that I use depending on my mood and the occasion, but these get the most wear.

A neutral bag is an easy basic that goes with almost any outfit and season. This Dooney and Bourke one was my first real splurge in the bag department, and it was totally worth it. I love how it’s very different from a lot of the bags that you see on the street, but is still a great neutral piece.

Lazy Day Outfit-14

For me, my wallet does double-duty as a clutch. I love that I can just grab my wallet and go, on days that I don’t need a purse, and it’s also great to not need to transfer anything when I’m heading out. If you’re looking to upgrade your wallet I’d definitely recommend a neutral but visually interesting long wallet like this one.

I’m also on a hunt for my perfect pop of color bag, and a more structured tote style would be a great complement to my collection. A fun colored bag can really add some interest to a casual outfit. Right now I’m torn between an oxblood and a mustard color because both are such versatile colors, but then a bright teal would also be so much fun. I think it’s safe to say that it’ll be a while before I make up my mind.

Ok, now shoes are hard because they’re so season dependent, but these are my four current favorites.

My lazy day go-to shoes are my black flats. These look good with pretty much anything, and they’re comfy to work in all day.

Polka Dots and Natural Dying-8

These heels are so ridiculously comfortable, and the fun blue makes them easy to pair with anything while still adding a little color. While most women have a neutral pump in their collection, I’d recommend going for something a little more bright, but not too out there.

Color Mixing - Analogous Colors-4

These combat boots add a great edge to any look, and the fact that you can wear them as long or short boots is awesome.

I just got these cage heels and they totally rock. The soft tan makes them more day wear than a black, and you can rock these all through fall and winter by pairing them with a warm pair of tights.

And I just realized that I completely forgot to include belts! Belts really add that extra pop to a look and can really help define the waist. I always like to have a wide variety of thick and thin belts around in various different colors.
